The Kashmir Files Storyline
The Kashmir Files is an upcoming film that throws light on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s which led to the forceful emigration of several Hindus from the Kashmir valley. The film focuses on the plight of the Kashmiri Pandits and investigates into one of the biggest human tragedies in Independent India.
The Kashmiri Pandits had to move out of Kashmir due to an atmosphere of fear and terror created by the increase in independence seeking militant groups and Islamic Insurgents in the 1990s who opposed the Hindu Kashmiri Pandits and wanted to create an Islamic state. The Kashmiri Hindu communities observe 19 January as the ‘Exodus Day’. The movie is inspired by true life events and is sure to have a gripping story line.

99 Songs Movie Review : An inconsistent ode to music and love
STORY: When a young musician embarks on a journey to make the song that can reunite him with the love of his life and also change the world, things don’t go quite as planned. As he hits rock-bottom, will music come to the rescue?
REVIEW: Jai (Ehan Bhat) has only two priorities in life – his music and his girlfriend Sophie (Edilsy Vargas). While he hasn’t hit big on the music scene yet, his rich girlfriend’s father Sanjay Singhania (Ranjit Barot) challenges him to compose a 100 songs before he can think of marrying Sophie. And thus begins Jai’s arduous journey that takes him to the beautiful and picturesque rolling hills of Shillong, where he has his task cut out.
AR Rahman’s musical attempt is crafted with love and passion for his art and that is the one thing that is constant throughout. This is definitely a plus, but the film’s overall soundtrack is high on quantity and much lower on the quality that one would expect from a musical genius like Rahman. That said, there is more to 99 songs than just its music and some of it sure works, in parts.
For starters, Debutant Vishwesh Krishnamoorthy navigates sensitively through the subject, telling us a story that keeps its focus on music. The execution and cinematography (Tanay Satam and James Cowley) is decidedly dark and sometimes feels overbearing, but many portions stand out for their vivid and imaginative visual treatment. The treatment is what gives this film, a deeply emotional touch that sadly isn’t so strong in the writing itself. The writing could have been more convincing.
Ehan Bhat looks every bit the brooding musician, deeply in love and his portrayal is honest. The role gives him enough space to showcase his emotional scale and for his first film, Bhat has done a decent job. Debutante Edilsy Vargas had a more difficult role to only emote without being able to talk. She looks glamorous and intense as Sophie, but her transformation isn’t very convincing. Also, we wish the two young actors had more scenes between them to show off their chemistry, which is crucial for a love story like this one. Manisha Koirala and Lisa Ray are very well-cast in their respective roles. Tenzing Dalha as Jai’s best friend tries too hard to be cool and casual, but a more seasoned character actor here would have done wonders.
Overall, '99 Songs' has all the elements of an emotional love story with music at its core. With better songs and more conviction in its execution, this one had all the potential to become a chart-topper. After all, as Manisha Koirala’s character says, “Music is the last surviving magic in the world.

Bansuri: The Flute Movie Review : A feeble take on broken bond and shattered dreams
STORY: Madan (Ankan Mallick), a young boy who lives with his mother and grandfather, vows to become a flutist like his absent father Sadashiv (Anurag Kashyap) when his mother describes him as a great musician.
REVIEW: Inspired by Augusto’s award-winning Tamil play ‘Vanavillin Ambbu’, ‘Bansuri’ revolves around an eight-year-old boy Madan who gets inspired by his friend David’s (Deepro Sen) skills of playing the piano. Madan believes that as David has an innate talent for music like his own father, he feels that he, too, must also follow his father’s footsteps. As Madan is on his road to discover what talents run in his family, his mother Sapna Mishra (Rituparna Sengupta) gives him a flute and convince him that his father Sadashiv is a big musician in Dubai who plays the same instrument. This is how he gets inspired and tries to excel like his old man. But, what if all this is a lie? Will Madan continue being enthusiastic about his passion for flute or will he be disappointed after knowing the truth forms the crux of the story.
Writer-director Hari Viswanath’s debut Hindi feature drama presents a story of a fractured family with utter simplicity. It is intriguing the way the narrative progresses as it gives us the glimpses of the bond between two neighbourhood friends (Madan and David) and their desire to become musician just like their respective father’s. But the latter half focuses on Sadashiv and his flute-learning lessons so that he can continue living the lie Sapna has told their son. The story has ample elements to keep you engrossed but the pace of the screenplay is stagnant throughout which may tend to become a tedious watch for some viewers. Overall, the story is apt for a theatre setting but its transformation on the silver screen could have been much better to elevate it to another level.
Coming to the performances, Rituparna Sengupta outshines every other cast member in her role as a mother who wants her son to make something out of his life and a wife who is still hanging tight for her husband to return while being a dutiful daughter-in-law who lends support to her father-in-law (Masood Akhtar) and her son, Madan. Both the child artists—Ankan Mallick and Deepro Sen—deliver genuine performances and their acts are laced with innocence. Anurag Kashyap enters post interval, but he makes his presence felt. The rest of the cast has helped in pushing the narrative forward.
In a nutshell, ‘Bansuri’ has its heart at the right place, however, it fails to leave a lasting impact on the audience. Truth be told, even the sincere performances couldn’t cause us to hear the strains of the flute till far.

The Big Bull Movie Review : Don’t let the stock of your expectations rise too high
REVIEW: It’s a rags to riches true story that has captured the collective conscience of the world. Told successfully before in a bestseller and a hugely successful web series, there is little we don’t know already about India’s multi-crore stock market ‘scam’. So, co-writer and director Kookie Gulati had a mammoth task at hand to crunch the highs and lows of an enigmatic character, into a two –and-a-half-hour-long feature film. And for a film that’s ‘somewhat inspired by true events,’ Gulati succeeds only partially, as the real story is far more fascinating and exciting. Here, we are quickly taken through Hemant Shah’s (Abhishek A Bachchan) journey from a salaried middle-class man to a seasoned stockbroker, without actually seeing him slug it out in the stock market. The basis of his meteoric rise from the common man to the Messiah of the common man, feels rushed and underwhelming. Glimpses of his modest life in a Mumbai chawl, his relationship with his family and Priya (Nikita Dutta), the girl his heart beats for, takes up more time than his stock market shenanigans.

Mumbai Saga Movie Review : John-Emraan face-off fuels this gangster drama
REVIEW: Writer, producer and director Sanjay Gupta’s heavy-duty action saga, begins with a bang, as a group of gangsters are chasing a cunning businessman to assassinate him in broad daylight. Welcome to the Mumbai (then called Bombay) of the early nineties that was ruled by the bhais and the bhaus. And the police was a pawn in the hands of the one who paid the highest price. During these volatile times, a beefy youngster Amartya Rao (John Abraham), suddenly transforms into a ravaging beast when his younger brother Arjun (Prateik Babbar) is almost killed by goons. Thus, begins Amartya’s journey into the big bad world of mafias, manipulative politicians and a blood-thirsty encounter specialist – all of whom ultimately want to rule over Mumbai.
It’s a super busy screenplay that has all the trappings of a big-ticket mass entertainer, packed with all the punches, literal and metaphorical. Every line is a heavy-duty filmy dialogue that is delivered with swag and dramatics to heighten the impact. Sample this, “Bandook se nikli goli na Eid dekhti hai na Holi,” and “Marathi ko jo rokega, Marathi usse thokega.”
A lot of it works because they come from strong and motivated characters, although, one too many. Their conflicts are relentless and interesting, especially, because it shows Mumbai’s turbulent past, which is chillingly real. The first-half is especially engaging with John Abraham beating up the bad guys and everything else in the process. But in a bid to make it a larger-than-life crime potboiler, Gupta also falls prey to the curse of the second half. Here, some of the plot-twists, conflicts and complications become overwhelmingly difficult to handle. However, there is enough paisa-vasool action, thrill and guns galore.
